Falch Lecture and Awards
The Faculty of Medicine awards research prizes on behalf of the "Konsul Søren Falch og øyenlege Sigurd Falchs fond for medisinsk vitenskap" and arranges an international guest lecture.

The guest lecture is held by a researcher at Nobel Prize level or a very high international level.
The fund was established in 1952 according to Søren Falch’s testament, and has awarded various prizes to recognized researchers.
The Senior Prize is awarded annually and is a personal grant of 150,000 Norwegian kroner. Previous winners include Jarle Ofstad, Dagfinn Aarskog, Jon Lekven, Holm Holmsen, and Rolv Terje Lie.
The Junior Prize is awarded annually in the form of 100,000 Norwegian kroner and is given to talented researchers under the age of 40. Previous winners include Halvor Sommerfelt, Vidar Steen, Nina Øyen, Eystein Husebye, and Guri Rørtveit.
The Senior Prize has been established in 1991 with the following criteria:
- Academic leadership within one’s own research area
- Leading role in research development, researcher recruitment, and competence building
- Leading role in the internationalization of Norwegian medical research
- Leading role in research policy
The Junior Prize was established in 1996, with the following criteria:
- Depth, originality, and methodologic complexity
- Research findings that have led to applied results
Falch Lecture
The lecture was first held by Professor Leroy Hood in 2001. Previous lecturers include Nobel Prize winners Edvard Moser (2011) and Françoise Barré-Sinoussi (2014).
The lecture is open to all interested parties.
