BSRS 2013: Food as a Global Development Challenge
Main content
In year's Summer Research School aims to take a broader view on food as a development challenge through a series of keynote lectures and seminars given by internationally leading experts in the different fields, in-depth tutoring and discussions over the topics relevant for the students attending each of the five parallel courses, group discussions within and across courses addressing critical issues, and practical training in a broad range of research skills including scientific writing and communication, conceptual and numerical models, various research tools, and statistical analyses using the R language.
The school is a unique opportunity to explore this important topic with like-minded post-graduate students and young scientists from around the world. BSRS 2013 will bring together 70 PhD students from Norway and abroad, 30 lecturers from the Bergen Milieu, and 10 international keynote speakers over 10 days.
The week-day programme will typically start with a morning seminar, followed by a joint keynote lecture, course-specific activities, plenary discussions or roundtables, more lectures, and ending with a social activity in the evening. In the course-specific sessions, students will also receive practical training in topics and skill of particular relevant within their research field, and present and discuss their own research. All talks will include ample time for discussions, and informal interaction after the official programme is encouraged.
