Who is entitled to accommodation?
A disability is defined as the loss of, or damage to, a body part or one of the body’s functions. It can be a mental, intellectual, or sensory disability.
Diagnosis groups
Disabilities are often categorized by diagnosis groups, such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, or ADHD. Mental disorders, such as depression or bipolar disorders, are also included in the term.
Special needs
Special needs are defined as physical, psychosocial, or learning challenges of a temporary nature, such as a broken leg, the need to breastfeed, or caring for young children.
significant or substantial nature
For the university to be responsible for accommodations, the challenge must be of a significant or substantial nature. For example, a broken finger or a cold may not entitle you to accommodations unless it presents a significant challenge to your studies or exams.
What documentation should you provide?
The documentation should be issued by a doctor, psychologist, or other expert and must include information about the actual and concrete disadvantages of your condition, or disadvantages caused by side effects of medications. This is necessary to determine what accommodations you need.
Cover letter for completion
If you wish to, you can bring this form to the doctor for completion instead of obtaining a regular medical certificate. Applications and documentation are treated confidentially.
