Apply for accommodations

Individiual accommodations for internship placements

If you have a disability or a special need that makes it difficulty for you to complete your internship period, you might be entitled to recieve individual accomodations.

Main content

Internship periods at UiB are often intensive and demanding. If you have a disability or other special needs that make it challenging for you to complete an internship, you can apply for accommodations for your internship.

The internship sites

UiB has agreements with various internship sites, and the possibilities for accommodations depend on whether there are internship sites that offer the accommodations you need.

Therefore, the availability of accommodations in internships may vary from program to program. There may also be varying possibilities for accommodations in certain geographical areas.

Guidance

Since UiB has less control over the conditions at the internship sites than we do on our own campus, it is important to contact your faculty for guidance and to investigate the possibility of receiving accommodations that address the specific disadvantages you experience due to your disability or special needs. This cannot always be guaranteed.

Apply early

In this context, it is also important that you submit your application for accommodations as early as possible to ensure that we can process your application within the period for internship placements in the respective courses.

You must provide documentation of your special needs.

Academic requirements and accommodations

Accommodations for internships can only be granted if the academic requirements for the internship period are still met. The accommodations cannot compromise academic requirements and any progression requirements.

Accommodations can be granted within the following frameworks:

  • You must have the same number of internship days per week as described in the course description for the relevant internship period.
  • You must have the same number of teaching hours as described in the course description/internship regulations.
  • You must have the same number of supervision hours as described in the course description/internship regulations.
  • Your accommodations must not interfere with cooperation with supervisors and fellow students.

Specific to Teacher Education Programs:

  • During long-term internships, you must complete the internship log as described in the course description for the internship periods.

  • You must attend relevant meetings at the internship school. The internship school can, by direct agreement, exempt you from some meetings, if it is not necessary to achieve a full internship day, or if the absence does not interfere with cooperation with supervisors, fellow students, etc.
