Questionable practices: Field work, research cruises, internships and group travels
A safe learning environment is UiB's responsibility. It is also our responsibility to implement measures if questionable practices are discovered, even when this happens while you are on field work, research cruises, internships or group travels. Have you experienced anything that you consider criticizable or worrying? Speak up.

Field work, research cruises, internships and group travels should be sound in terms of health, environment and safety.
UiB's Guidelines for health, safety and environment during fieldwork, research cruises and group travel apply to employees and students at UiB.
The guidelines describe the scope and responsibilities and tasks in connection with HSE in field work, research cruises and group travel, both in terms of preparation, implementation and follow-up work.

What does it mean to report censurable issues?
To report information about serious censurable issues, primarily violation of the law and breach of normal ethical standards. This can be particularly relevant if students or staff at the University of Bergen become aware of:
- unethical, illegal or criminal acts relating to the learning- or working environment, pollution, corruption, misuse of public funds, abuse of authority
- defects or deficiencies that can result in danger to life or health
- that fellow students or employees are being bullied, harassed or discriminated against in connection with their activity at the University of Bergen.
As a student, you can also report censurable issues to which you yourself have been exposed.
The UiB takes you seriously
- We would like you to speak out if you have discovered any questionable practices that might be detrimental to the UiB or any individuals at the UiB. Cases relating to questionable practices shall protect you as a student and ensure that your report will be dealt with.
- What happens when you have reported something? All sensitive documents relating to the matter are exempt from public disclosure and cases will be treated in confidence. This means that your name will not be known to any more people than is necessary for the further processing of your case.
- Unsure about what to do? Unsure about your rights? The ombud for students is an independent support person who is tasked with providing students at the University of Bergen with legal assistance in respect of matters relating to their study situation.
