Where is the single market heading?

A conversation on the future of the single market with Professor Catherine Barnard from the University of Cambridge and Deputy Director Mona Næss at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Hovedinnhold

2024 has been a year of several seminal reports from the EU. The Letta report on the future of the single market was published in the spring, followed in the autumn by the Draghi report on the future of European competitiveness. Both reports, written by former Italian prime ministers Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi respectively, address how the EU can tackle the numerous challenges which the Union now faces. Geopolitically, Europe is standing at a crossroads. There is a pressing need to find new solutions to strengthen European competitiveness whilst maintaining the social economy model and the fundamental values upon which the Union relies.

Centenol is delighted to be joined by two eminent speakers to discuss the future of the single market: Professor Catherine Barnard from the University of Cambridge and Deputy Director Mona Næss from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. They will highlight key findings of the Letta and Draghi reports and offer their own thoughts on how to address the challenges ahead. Catherine Barnard will also offer a UK perspective on European competitiveness; whereas Mona Næss will add an EEA perspective based e.g. on her experiences within the social rights field. How can non-member states such as the UK and the EFTA States safeguard their interests when the EU sets out to strengthen its competitiveness?
