Impacts of wettability on oil recovery

This research aims at determining the effects on oil production from various wettability conditions. The experiments are designed for oil recovery from chalk, carbonate and sandstone reservoirs.

Hovedinnhold

Focus is on wettability effects and how to reproducibly alter the wettability to establish uniform wettability conditions for core analysis and to improve the understanding of the effects from wettability on oil displacement. Numerical simulations of the experiments are performed. Oils from 9 different oil reservoirs have been obtained and oil/brine/rock characteristics related to wettability alteration will be carried out in collaboration with Dr. Jill Buckley, PRRC, New Mexico Tech., Socorro, NM, and Prof. Norman Morrow, U. of Wyoming, USA. The research activity on wettability phenomena is closely integrated in our other projects on fractured reservoirs, capillary heterogeneities and upscaling of fluid flow in porous media.
