Hovedinnhold
Nilsen's article - which is entitled "Subalterns and the State in the Longue Durée: Notes from "The Rebellious Century in the Bhil Heartland" - investigates how Bhil Adivasis in western India rebelled against colonial rule over a century-long period from 1820 to the 1920s.
Focusing on how the Bhils justified their rebellions by drawing on dominant ideologies, the article argues for a historical-sociological approach to state-society relations in the study of popular resistance and political protest.
The article is published as Open Access with support from the BORA-initiative at the University of Bergen.
