About the topic
In this Open Science Lunch, our invited guests will present key challenges currently facing scientific publishing, including the widespread proliferation of fabricated articles and unethical peer review practices, as well as ways to uncover and confront them.
Per S. Refseth (Academic librarian) will provide a brief overview of the issue surrounding fake research articles in academic publishing. He will discuss allegations of research misconduct highlighted in PubPeer, and the insufficient response from research institutions.
Morten Oksvold (Independent researcher) will discuss how his team actively analyses and identifies problematic articles. He will cover several critical topics, including: data duplication and the fabrication of research articles, the rise of AI-generated data in publications, the prevalence of nonsensical phrases and obvious flaws, as well as the emergence of paper mills in the publishing landscape.
