FIRE SAFETY HANDBOOK FOR DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Introduction and general information

This fire safety handbook has been prepared to provide clear documentation that satisfies the regulations and UiB’s guidelines with regard to user responsibility.

GENERAL FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION

The Department of Biosciences (BIO) consists of 6 groups (faggrupper) with a total of over 260 employees and 600 students. There are large variations in which tasks are carried out in the different groups

The groups are located in:

Thormøhlensgate 55 (TM55), Bioblokken 1.,3.,4. 5th floor

Thormøhlensgate 53, A block (TM53A), B block (TM53B).

The building mass to which this fire code applies consists of several laboratory buildings owned by the University of Bergen and where the areas to which the fire code applies are used by the University of Bergen, Department of Biosciences.

In addition, BIO has a field station - Marinbiologisk stasjon, Espelandsveien 232

TIDIENESS

We wish to maintain cleanness and general order in all rooms. This can prevent a fire from occurring in the building or the spreading of it if one arises.  

Flammable materials must not be stored unnecessarily in the building or next to the building on the outside.

The escape routes should always tidy. It’s prohibbed to store items in the escape route.

FIRE BRIGADE

The buildings are close to the main fire station in the center with a fire service that is well equipped with barracked crews and a good fleet of vehicles. Driving time 5 min. Fire alarm goes internally and to EiA Operation Area 3. After 5 minutes to the fire station.
