Systematic fire preventive work at BIO

FIRE PROTECTION TRAINING

New employees, new students and guests are obliged to get internal fire safety training within a week of being appointed.

The research group leader, project manager, lab manager, supervisor or guest host is responsible for introducing the person to the site manager so that fire safety training can be provided according to the set plan.

The site manager in the area in which the person in question is to have their workplace provides internal fire protection training according to a set plan. Lab managers can also provide this type of training (Safety Pass). Digital copies of the training certificates are stored locally by the lab managers.

In addition to the Safety Pass, all employees are obliged to complete a digital fire protection course (see link below for info and to sign up) It is the responsibility of each employee to do this once per year. After having completed the digital fire protection course for the first time, reminders about the need for yearly updating will be sent out automatically.

Tenants must ensure that all their people contact the site manager so that they receive the necessary Fire Protection training required by BIO.

All employees at UIB are obliged to complete a 1-hour fire extinguishing practice (see link below). Attending this course once is mandatory for all UiB staff. This is a necessary supplementation for the digital course on fire safety..

Compulsory practical courses in extinguishing are arranged by the Estate and Facilities Management division (Eiendomsavdelingen) and are posted on the HSE -gateway.

FIRE DRILLS

We intend to develop a plan for what should be paid special attention to and what the aims of a fire drill are. In addition, we have a protocol for documenting every single fire drill, which is archived by the institutes user representative for fire and sent to BIO leadership and to EiA (Estate and Facilities Management division).

The content and the frequency of these exercises is decided based on risk mapping and general risk of fire in each entity, and at least once per semester.

In case of an unintentional activation of the fire alarm or in case of a real fire, an appropriate report must be filed by the institutes User Representative for fire (main fire protection officer) and sent to BIO leadership and to EiA (Estate and Facilities management division).

FIRE PREVENTION WORK

Inspection and control of the buildings is carried out by Owner's Representative from EIA and by users' representative and site manager at each individual building.

EiA controls fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, marker lights, door pumps and fire doors.

Site managers carry out inspections of escape routes and fire doors, every 3 months.

Fire protection training is carried out in collaboration with the Fire and Security Engineer at EiA in addition to internal training.

Fire drills are carried out at least twice a year. Fire drills are organized by EiA together with the user representatives for fire and the Fire Protection Manager at UIB.

GUIDELINES FOR FIRE SAFETY

Instructions for local fire safety representatives

At BIO, the rule is that everyone in an area is a deputy if the site manager is not present when the fire alarm goes off. The site manager will perform internal training of new employees, guests, and students when they are introduced to them.
