19th September 2018, CCBIO hosted a Special Seminar on the issue of scientific excellence. Speakers Bruce Zetter (Harvard Medical School/Boston Children's Hospital), Merle Jacob (Lund University) as well as Lars A. Akslen (CCBIO) and Roger Strand (SVT/CCBIO) discussed different ways to conceptualise and achieve excellence, leaving the audience both inspired and a little thought-provoked.

Currently UiB/CCBIO have two PhD guest students from Armenia within a collaboration project promoting oral pathology and research (Eurasia program).
Former CCBIO Postdoc Agnete Engelsen was awarded a FRIPRO mobility grant from NFR/ MCA COFUND and is currently resident in France with her family to embark on exciting research projects with distinguished collaborators at Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus Grand Paris. Maria Paula Ramnefjell defended April 10th 2018 her doctoral thesis "Prognostic biomarkers and clinico-pathologic characteristics in non-small cell lung cancer. A study with special focus on tumor-vascular interactions" at the University of Bergen.
The CCBIO Director Lars A. Akslen was recently awarded as Honorary Member of the Norwegian Society of Pathology (DNP). Akslen has former been chairman of the association during two periods, 2008-2012.
We have just received the very sad news that Professor Jarle Rørvik unexpectedly passed away on March 1st 2018.
This year, Cancer Crosslink was organized for the 10th time, and top-notch international speakers attended the meeting entitled “Precision Treatment: Exploiting Recent Advances – Fast and Furious?”. CCBIO postdoc and gynecologist Liv Cecilie Vestrheim Thomsen chaired the meeting together with Christian Kersten, oncologist at Center for Cancer Treatment, Sørlandet Hospital, Kristiansand.

The Centre for Cancer Biomarkers hosted a two-day seminar in scientific writing December 13th and 14th, and the massive interest proves that this is an issue both students and researchers feel the need to learn more about.
