Main content

  • The support of research activities by Norwegian scholars in Greece is the principal mission of the Norwegian Institute at Athens. The Institute, as one of the sixteen foreign schools and institutes in Athens, serves as a liaison between Norwegian researchers and institutions and their counterparts in Greece. It is an active and legally acknowledged contributor in the efforts to explore, preserve, and present the Greek past. In that respect, the Institute has organized and conducted several archaeological research projects.

  • In addition to archaeology, the Institute supports research activities related to history, classics, ancient philosophy, religion, social sciences and humanities in general, including the contemporary culture and art.

  • Some aspects of research require permits from the relevant Greek authorities, archaeology being one of them. To see the list of requirements needed to apply for archaeological research permits or to browse the short description of our active and completed field projects, please see the Research section on this web site.
