Based on a long-standing collaboration between University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital, Kamal Mustafa, Cecilie Gjerde and the team of Tissue Engineering Research Group in the project SFI PRIME want to change the way we repair damaged tissues, using stem cells to make new bones and skin.
PhD-candidate at IKO, Åshild Johansen, attended the CED/NOF-Oral Health Research Congress in Geneva 12-14th September. Hassan Abdel-Raouf Abdel-Wahab Mohamed Ali defended his thesis for the PhD-degree at the University of Bergen on the 24th of May. The title of the thesis is: " "Stemness and osteogenic differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells generated in xeno-free conditions" ".
Victoria Xenaki defended her thesis for the PhD-degree at the University of Bergen on the 23 of May. The title of the thesis is: " Nanosafety aspects: Dental health care workers’ perception of nanomaterials and in vitro nanotoxicity assessment using new approach methodologies ".

Åshild Johansen, a PhD candidate in the Tissue Engineering Group, represented the University of Bergen and gave a talk at the National Convention for the Norwegian Dental Association in November 2023. The title of the talk was, “New Biomaterials for 3D-Printing of Bone”, where she presented some of her newest results.
Cecilie Gjerde, dentist and specialist in oral surgery and oral medicine, held a presentation at Bioteknologirådet on how she builds new bone for patients using stem cells. Gjerde is a former winner of the research dissemination award Forsker Grand Prix and works as an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Bergen.
