Gas anesthesia and safety issues

Use of gas anesthesia require knowledge about safe operations.

Main content

Gas anesthesia provides the best opportunity to control the anesthesia and provides the most secure anesthesia for the animal. This reduces the risk of complications in anesthesia.

Working with gas anesthesia assumes that the user has knowledge of how the equipment works and knows how to make a leak test before use.

Correct use

The individual user is responsible for testing the device and equipment before use and reporting to the owner / responsible person for errors or omissions. In case of equipment failure, poor ventilation or other deviations and undesirable incidents, please report electronically non-conformance form found here

Training

Be sure that you are appropriately trained before you start to use gas anesthesia

Training takes place in 3 steps:

1) Course in experimental animal education (LAS 301/302 - theoretical introduction)

2) Compulsory course on gas anesthesia (theory and practice)

3) Practical review of gas anesthesia / equipment on site is mandatory

The training must be documented. For training contact beate.kluge@uib.no
