Research support from the library

Openness, transparency, and knowledge exchange are core values for the University of Bergen. In 2020, the University board adopted The University of Bergen Policy for Open Science. Research funders also have requirements that reseachers must adhere to.

The Library offers support and guidance for researchers on Open Science, primarily open publishing and open research data. We also organize regular activities on the subject, such as the Open Science webinar series each semester, and the monthly BOTT collaboration Open Science Lunch (see UB Calendar). 

The Library can guide researchers through the publication process, for example through Open Access (OA) publishing and publishing agreements. We also manage the UiBs OA publication fund, where researchers at UiB can apply for funding to cover Article Processing Charges (APC) to publish Open Access. Contact: bora@uib.no. 

The Library serves as the organizational hub for registration and reporting of research activities through CRISTIN. Contact: cristin@uib.no. We are also part of the user group for the testing and implementation of the new Cris/NVA archive.

The University Library offers guidance on various aspects of Open Access to research data. We advice on writing Data Management Plans (DMP), finding and reusing datasets, citable code, and depositing data in UiBs institutional data repository DvNO or generic or domain-specific research data archives. Contact: research-data@uib.no.

There are activities researchers can use to boost their visibility and impact of their work. The University Library offers tips and guidance on Visibility and publishing strategy, use of researcher profiles & profile statistcs (e.g. ORCID), and bibliometric services. Contact: bibliometri@uib.no.

Creating specific yet flexible search strings is a vital step of litterature searches and reviewing. Similarily, conscious and correct citing is important in the writing process. The Library offers a number of courses for students and staff on these topics. In addition, researchers may ask for tailored courses. You can also fill in this form for individual support on systematic reviewing.

The Digital Lab is an interdisciplinary hub for researchers, lecturers, and students, on-site and digitally. The lab is a space to learn, to discuss, and to apply various digital tools and methods. Please reach out if you have an idea for an activity!
