Ericaceae systematics and evolution

Our research on the flowering plant family Ericaceae is centred on the genus Erica and the collections of the University gardens, particularly Rhododendron.

Rosaceae evolution

The focus of the research group Rosaceae Evolution is the natural history of the flowering plant clade Rosaceae – including the phylogenetic backbone of the clade and its finer structure, the species and speciation processes, biogeographic history, and taxonomy.

Botanical History

University Gardens staff have published numerous works on subjects in both international and Norwegian botanical history.

Lichenology

Western-Norway is a hot spot for lichen diversity that has attracted lichenologists for decades, including a long tradition of research at the University of Bergen.
