Western-Norway is a hot spot for lichen diversity that has attracted lichenologists for decades, including a long tradition of research at the University of Bergen.

Main content

Systematic and taxonomic research on lichen diversity is one of the specialist subjects of the scientists at the Natural History Museum, including the University Gardens. There is close cooperation with the cryptogam herbarium of Bergen.

Our scientists includes international specialists on particular lichen groups such as Pannariaceae (P.M.Jørgensen) and Lepraria (T.Tønsberg), and includes studies of lichens from Tasmania to North-America via Scandinavia.
