4. Mixed company

Pieris (Ericaceae), Clethra (Clethraceae), and Camellia (Theaceae)

Main content

At the edge of the pine forest, the local climate is optimal. The sun gives warmth even on a winter's day, and the high tree crowns retain heat during the winter nights, reducing the frost. Here we present a mixed company of larger bushes and small trees that thrive in peat and forest soils, and which benefit from this sheltered site, such as Pieris (Ericaceae), Clethra (Clethraceae), and Camellia (Theaceae).
