Rhododendron ‘Maid of Norway’

New Rhododendron cultivar named in honour of 25th anniversary of the Norwegian Rhododendron Society.

Saturday 28th of May 2022 marks the unveiling of a new Rhododendron cultivar: 'Maid of Norway'. Grown at Bergen University Gardens' Arboretum, it was officially registered by Emeritus Professor Per Magnus Jørgensen in honour of the 25th anniversary of the Norwegian Rhododendron Society ('Den norske Rhododendronforening': URL). The cultivar is named after Princess Margaret, born in Bergen, who died on the journey to Scotland to marry Crown Prince Edward. It is most likely a cross between Rh. wardii var. puralbum and a white form of Rh. campylocarpum.
