The Arboretum's friends were founded in 1986, and are a support association for the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Milde. The association contributes to Bergen's botanical gem with a significant amount of work, such as planting, weeding, forestry work and collecting and cleaning seeds. The association also holds events in Fana and Ytrebygda, and supports the Arboretum financially via membership fees and the sale of locally produced firewood.

The prize was awarded by the city council for culture, volunteering and inclusion, Eduardo H. Andersen. In his speech, he highlighted the associations' contribution in culture, volunteering and the environment.

- The Culture Prize jury believes that this year's winner is helping to expand the concept of culture, and to shine a spotlight on the environment, sustainability, knowledge and well-being. Their efforts are of inestimable joy to those who live in the local area, but also benefit the rest of the population in the district. And we can perhaps shamelessly say, also Bergen, Western Norway and the whole of Norway.

The jury also wanted to highlight the association's chairman, Fredrik Sørvig.

- Sørvig is a zealot for local history and culture, and a highly valued man in the district. The jury believes that a prize for the Arboretum's friends is also a prize for Fredrik and his efforts, said city councilor Andersen.

We congratulate!
