University network
The purpose of the network is to strengthen elderly care medicine, on a local, national and international level.

SEFAS has initiated a national university network within elderly care and nursing home medicine. Involving the medical faculties of Tromsø (UiT), Trondheim (NTNU), Oslo (UiO) and Bergen (UiB), the purpose of the network is to strengthen elderly care medicine, on a local, national and international level.
Each of the universities will establish a closer collaboration between the research institution and the local primary health service. The goal is that research and implementation of research-based practice will increase the quality in nursing homes and in homebased service.
An overview of national research and teaching in the field is underway. Several universities already have interdisciplinary student-oriented teaching where a placement in municipal health and care services is part of the programme.
Bettina Husebø, head of SEFAS, says students and the healthcare system will benefit from teaching and practice in an interdisciplinary environment for all degrees within health science; nursing, medicine, psychology, nutrition, pharmacy, dentistry and physiotherapy.
In time, the network will initiate interdisciplinary and international research. The network is funded by the Norwegian government.
