Abstract:

Which types of voters support addressing rural and urban economic grievances? This paper investigates this question through two novel studies conducted in Norway. The first study experimentally examines how support for funding different types of places is moderated by core political orientations. The second study analyzes voters' priorities regarding economic policies to uncover how these core political orientations predict support for prioritizing certain places over others, as well as over other policies. The study highlights the political political foundations of supporting place-based economic grievances and identifies the voter potential and conflicts associated with policies that address these grievances.
