About Tredjepartsportalen
How does Tredjepartsportalen work?
Tredjepartsportalen works on all types of machines (desktop, laptop, tablet etc.) with different operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook) etc.
In most cases, students download a background application that ensures that students have seamless access to the programs regardless of the equipment they use
Students with a Windows computer
Windows users download and virtualize the program on the machine at first boot. Once downloaded, it will behave as if it were installed locally. Using software on Windows therefore does not require internet access (with some exceptions where the software requires you to verify the license of the program along the way).
Students with Mac, Chromebook, Linux, tablets etc.
For those who use Mac, Linux, Chromebooks, tablets etc., the software starts on a virtual machine at UiB that the student can access via a background application on the machine (Mac) or via a browser (the rest). Use of software on these platforms therefore requires internet access.
How do students access files and how is storage handled?
All UiB students are recommended to save files securely in OneDrive, which is offered free of charge as part of the Microsoft365 subscription at UiB. The student's OneDrive area is set up to be the storage area when a student works on a virtual machine. Students must make sure to download the files they want to keep after their studies before they finish.
This sounds complicated - do the students have good enough digital skills to use the Third Party Portal?
In order to raise the digital competence of UiB students, as part of the development of the Third Party Portal, we have created an online course about digital working methods and technology for learning to ensure that the students are not only ready to use Tredjepartsportalen, but also have the competence to use UiB's entire digital portfolio to promote learning.
How is user support handled?
All user support is handled by the IT and the Division of Student and Academic Affairs, both in terms of academic staff, administration and students.
How are the faculties/academic communities involved?
All the faculties at UiB have at least one super user, who is the faculty's expert in the use of Tredjepartsportalen and faculty representative in the Network for software for teaching and assessment. The superuser is the faculty's contact person and participates in the processing of new needs for software.
How can I register a need for new programs?
More information about the process can be found here.
Is it possible to get the costs of new software covered?
No, any costs related to new needs for software must be covered by the academic community.
Where can I find more information?
There is information about the Third Party Portal in both English and Norwegian at uib.no.
About the development of Tredjepartsportalen
Who has been involved in the development of Tredjepartsportalen?
The development of the Tredjepartsportalen has been led by the UiB Learning Lab, in collaboration with all the central agreements, faculties and students. SV has been the main pilot for developing the solution. Read more at PåHøyden(in Norwegian).
What did you learn from the pilot?
The pilot of the Third Party Portal revealed that the solution is built robustly, but as expected and desired, a number of challenges were discovered and corrected. The students were satisfied with being able to use the programs everywhere and with the fact that the service just worked. The pilot also revealed that there is a need for increased digital competence among students. This has resulted in the development of an online course about digital working methods and technology for learning.
Where can I get help with Tredjepartsportalen?
