The Bergen Longitudinal Dyslexia Study

Abstract

The Bergen Longitudinal ”Speak up!” project was originally set up in three waves, running from 2003 to 2007.

Main content

Prior to the first wave a risk group and a control group were selected from the total pool of participants. The selection procedures  built on certain principles, derived from central theories of dyslexia. Each wave startet with assessment of the children in the autumn, and continued with targeted intervention in the spring. fMRI screening was included twice, in the spring when the children were 6 and 8 years old.

In 2009/10, a follow-up study was performed with most of the children that had participated in the original three waves. In this study there were no training sessions, but several of the same tests were performed again – including fMRI screening.
