    Pets at the workplace

    OFFICE WORKPLACE

Inquiries regarding ergonomic aids are made to the Head of Administration at BIO

UiB's guide to setting up your office equipment to prevent musculoskeletal pain

COMPUTER GLASSES - BIO will cover the cost of computer glasses.

Information about computer glasses can be found on the HSE-GateWay

DAYLIGHT LAMP - BIO does not cover the purchase of daylight lamp.

Aids that are no longer in use must be made available to others who need such equipment.

Minor ergonomic equipment such as Rollermouse / mousetraps, wrist and forearm support etc. can be handed in at the BIO reception. Please notify the reception if you have a special chair or other larger equipment that is no longer in use. Due to limited storage capacity, the location of such equipment is recorded to be collected in the case that the need for use by other users arises.

When the employment ends, all aids must be returned to the department.

    ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

All electrical equipment must be intact, properly positioned and functioning correctly. As a general rule, extension cables should not be used. Clean and maintain the equipment in accordance with the supplier's recommendations, as incorrect use of electrical equipment is a common cause of fire.

UiB has prepared its own charging rules for charging electrical items. This is good advice that applies at work, at home and during leisure time.

In addition, there are special charging rules for lithium batteries on the HSE-gateway. Due to the risk of fire associated with lithium batteries, you should always switch off charging before the end of the working day.

    Kitchen equipment

Coffee makers and kettles MUST be equipped with a timer and placed ONLY in common lunch rooms and coffee corners.

Coffee machines with timers may be permitted in offices.

Microwave ovens are prohibited in places other than common areas such as lunch rooms and coffee corners. When using a microwave, you must be present to avoid burning food and emitting smoke that can set off the fire alarm. The microwave oven must not be placed directly under a fire detector.

Hotplates or hobs are not permitted for food preparation. Use a microwave oven. Otherwise, please refer to the canteen for hot food.

Refrigerators should not be placed in offices as it is a hygiene and cleaning issue. In addition, electricity use is a negative factor.

    WASTE DISPOSAL

Electrical waste can be disposed of in the electrical cage in the “Miljøstasjonen” in the Allbruksbygget/garage building. Thormøhlensgate 53E.

Disposable batteries: Should be collected in separate containers. Use declaration form for hazardous waste before disposal. Contact your local lab manager for questions regarding disposable batteries. For 9V batteries it’s important to tape the terminals to avoid flammable situations. If possible, disposable batteries should be replaced with rechargeable batteries.
