Fieldwork
Fieldwork is not defined as official travel, but as obligatory work outside the ordinary place of work. Employees are covered by accident insurance for the duration of the fieldwork.
Research cruises
Employees are insured against accidents for the duration of the expedition.
Students
Students are generally covered for occupational injury under the National Insurance Act if the injury occurred while the student was in a teaching situation, at the place of teaching or during teaching hours. This also applies to injuries that may occur during fieldwork since it is organized by UiB. Further information is available on UiB's website.
Special rules for foreign students in Norway.
Students studying or doing fieldwork abroad must have their own travel insurance. It is the students' own responsibility to ensure that they have valid travel insurance before travelling abroad. See here for more information about health, safety and insurance for students travelling. (The link is only available in Norwegian).
