The Old Norwegian charter material held in the Manuscript and Rare Book Collection has been the focus of new projects since 2019, including the collection of comprehensive metadata, the encoding of charters, and further digitization of the material. This collection is rich and fascinating, offering a unique opportunity for research and valuable insight into various aspects of social, political, economic, and cultural life in medieval Norway. Additionally, the charters shed light on linguistic aspects – both synchronically and diachronically.

This event marks the first meeting between the University of Bergen and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań to promote international collaboration, particularly in linguistics, based on this material. The main organizers are Dominika Skrzypek (Poznań, Professor of Nordic Linguistics) and Juliane Tiemann (Bergen, Academic director of Digital Development), in collaboration with Alexandros Tsakos (Academic director of the Manuscript and Rare Book Collection). In Bergen, several projects have laid the foundation for multiple research perspectives, ensuring that this gathering will cover various aspects of the Old Norwegian charter material.
