Searching for ancient sulfate in South Africa (31.07.2024)

One of the best things of being a researcher is when you get the chance to broaden your horizons. This summer, geochemist Desiree Roerdink traveled to the Barberton Greenstone Belt in South Africa and dove back into the research field of sedimentology to find out how sulfate minerals formed on ancient shorelines, more than 3.2 billion years ago.

Two Michael Sars Centre postdoctoral researchers awarded prestigious fellowships (26.07.2024)

Emily Claereboudt will pursue a project in chemical ecology after receiving a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship, while Ruth Styfhals will lead a study on the developmental origin of nervous systems as part of an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Joined IPBES' annual meeting of the task force on scenarios and models (08.07.2024)

The Annual meeting of the IPBES task force on scenarios and models was held on 17-20 June 2024 in Hayama, Japan hosted by the technical support unit (TSU) located in the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies. CeSAM researcher Dr. Ali K. Saysel, task force expert and professor at the Department of Geography, system dynamics group in UiB joined the meeting.

11 New UNESCO Biosphere Reserves (08.07.2024)

UNESCO recently welcomed 11 new areas into the family of Biosphere Reserves. Two of the countries, Belgium and Gambia, are recieving their first ever BR designations. The other nine countries recieving new biosphere designations are Colombia, Dominican Republic, Italy, Mongolia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, South Korea, Slovenia and Spain.
