On 15 September, the plastic waste clean-up action Rein Hardangerfjord (Clean Hardangerfjord) took place. The Plastics Network at UiB filled a bus with students and staff who wanted to make an effort for the environment.

What did the surface of Earth look like more than three billion years ago? What kinds of microbes lived there and when did they start producing oxygen? And what was the temperature and composition of the ancient oceans and atmosphere? Big questions like these is what drew a group of 41 scientists to sunny Berlin last week, including our Associate professor Desiree Roerdink.

On 15 November, the University of Bergen will kickstart LEAD AI, a program for training future leaders in artificial intelligence. The event is meant to be a first get-to-know-each-other meeting for representatives from the participating UiB entities and partners.

Scientists taking part in the 2023 GoNorth expedition have discovered a new hydrothermal field – an area with sea floor hot springs – in the Lena Trough, part of a mid-ocean ridge between Svalbard and Greenland.

Traversing European Coastlines (TREC) is a continent-wide expedition addressing environmental challenges along the coasts of Europe. On their northernmost stop, the team was based at the Espegrend Marine Biological Station, hosted by the University of Bergen.
