The annual science festival creates enthusiasm and understanding for research through local educational and research institutions. Held every year since 1995, it is one of Europe's largest, nationwide research festivals.
On 15 September, the plastic waste clean-up action Rein Hardangerfjord (Clean Hardangerfjord) took place. The Plastics Network at UiB filled a bus with students and staff who wanted to make an effort for the environment.

Underneath the ocean floor, thrives a vast biosphere which activity profoundly impacting our global environment; from the air that we breathe, to the balance of the global carbon budget. The functioning of this biosphere is what the new director at the Centre for Deep Sea Research at UiB, Steffen Leth Jørgensen, seeks to understand.
Scientists taking part in the 2023 GoNorth expedition have discovered a new hydrothermal field – an area with sea floor hot springs – in the Lena Trough, part of a mid-ocean ridge between Svalbard and Greenland.
Early August, the GONORTH cruise organised by several Norwegian institutions came to an end. On its last ROV dive, a new hydrothermal vent field, named Ultima Thule, was discovered on the Lucky Ridge!
Traversing European Coastlines (TREC) is a continent-wide expedition addressing environmental challenges along the coasts of Europe. On their northernmost stop, the team was based at the Espegrend Marine Biological Station, hosted by the University of Bergen.
From August 7 - 11, 50+ data scientists from across Norway came together at the Joint CEDAS-NORBIS Summer School to discuss data science and its biomedical applications. The summer school featured keynotes, theoretical and practical sessions on Machine Learning, Statistics, and Visual Data Science.
