Helse Vest grants for 2023 to all four Neuro-SysMed disease programs (29.11.2022)
The regional health authorities, Helse Vest, just released their latest funding results in which 7 Neuro-SysMed projects will receive funding for a total of ~26 Million NOK. This will secure support for important clinical treatment research focusing on multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and dementia.

Cancer research grant to PhD Candidate Christiane H. Gjerde (28.11.2022)
Christiane Helgestad Gjerde, PhD candidate in the Bjørge and McCormack groups at CCBIO and the Department of Clinical Science, was awarded with the Kolbjørn Brambani Cancer Research Grant 2022 at the Onkologisk Forum meeting November 17.
Essential Health Care Package - Zanzibar (27.11.2022)
After three years of hard work, the BCEPS Zanzibar Team led by Omar Mwalim and Kjell Arne Johansson were able to celebrate the Ministry of Health's launch of a new Essential Health Care Package (EHCP).

Helse Vest, the regional health authorities, has recently announced their 2022 awards, where Kjell-Morten Myhr received the Research Award 2022 for his outstanding work on Multiple Sclerosis research.

In January, the Pandemic Centre offers a two-week course for students on learning from the COVID-19 pandemic. The course builds on last year's digital module and is open to all students at master's and PhD level.

Study finds increased risk of cancer in children to mothers with epilepsy using high-dose folic acid during pregnancy (08.11.2022)
High-dose folic acid is protective against congenital malformations if the mother is at particular risk of having a child with congenital malformations. However, some studies have raised concern that folic acid can increase the risk of cancer not only in the mother, but in the child when exposed during pregnancy.

New genetic study reveals why some women get aggressive breast and ovarian cancerrian cancer (08.11.2022)
In a recent study published in JAMA Oncology, investigators from the University of Bergen, in collaboration with the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study in the US, reported epigenetic gene silencing in normal tissue to be a predictive factor for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) as well as high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC).

High blood pressure in women – time for action (03.11.2022)
Senior researcher PhD Helga Midtbø presented new knowledge about high blood pressure in women at the women’s health session at the Norwegian Society of Cardiology Autumn Meeting in Oslo 22.11.22. Project on BRCA1 methylation in early embryonic life receives funding from the Norwegian Cancer Society (02.11.2022)
Mohn Cancer Research Laboratory has been awarded 7 993 000 kr from the Norwegian Cancer Society for the project "Is BRCA1 methylation in early embryonic life the first step towards cancer?". The project is led by Stian Knappskog and is one of 25 projects among 143 applicants that receives funding in this year's allocations.

Researchers from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Tanzania and University of Bergen (UiB), Norway, working in the Norhed II project SAFEWORKERS - Safe Work Conditions by Innovative Research and Education, have written a new book, addressing global health challenges towards obtaining a descent workplace.

The course CCBIO905 – Methods in Cancer Biomarker Research was arranged for the fourth time September 27-29, 2022. This was the second time as a fully digital event. From the confusion of the first pandemic months, CCBIO is now highly experienced in organizing digital events, and hybrid events, for that matter. One thing is however clear – it takes a village to run a good online course!

3D-printing live tumors in vulvar cancer project (27.10.2022)
A collaboration project on vulvar cancer between the Bjørge, Costea and Mustafa groups are using a 3D bioprinter to print tiny vulvar cancer tumors with live support tissue, for more realistic testing of which therapy will give the best response.
